When Abhijay Karandikar first entered medical school, he didn’t know much about the field of occupational medicine, and didn’t envision becoming a specialist in it. But by the time he entered his residency, he recognized it as an emerging specialty that offered a unique opportunity for a wide range of responsibilities and services.
 
 “It’s truly multi-faceted, which is what I find rewarding about it,” said Dr. Karandikar, who now sees patients in the Backus Family Health Center.
